post Baseball and Friends in Emerald City

August 5th, 2007

Back in April of this year, David and our friend, Ryan, arranged to see a Major League ball game up in Seattle at SafeCo field. It was a long wait, but the time was finally here. We left Saturday morning to go to Ryan’s house where he would then choufer us in his Jeep to his sister’s, Karen’s, house in Maple Valley, Washington, a suburb southeast of Seattle.

We were given a warm welcome, then again chauffeured to dinner, this time in Karen’s Hummer. Man, did we think we were cool or what? When we got to the restaurant, David and I slowly got out of the Hummer as if to say, “Yeah, that’s right, we came here in this Hummer!” We turned around to see Ryan and Karen already to the entrance of the restaurant.

After dinner, we went for a nice walk, then out again for ice cream. We rolled ourselves home, stuffed, overwhelmed and excited for the next day.

Sunday morning, I put on my awesome Mariner’s shirt and David put on his Red “Sux” shirt”¦oops, I mean Red Sox shirt. We were sooo ready for the game.

As we got closer and closer to SafeCo Field, we got more and more excited. The seats David got were perfect. We were near 3rd base and were in the shade for the majority of the game.

After a few innings and David jumping to his feet to cheer, it was becoming more and more obvious that this wasn’t going to be a win for the Mariners. Karen, Ryan and I never gave up hope through. It was an awesome game with great company. David and I would love to do it again, soon we hope.

David, now with a matching Red “Sux” hat, walked out of the stadium, proud of the 9-2 point spread (Here is where David wanted to insert the following comment that I just couldn’t bare to write ) (erasing “9-2 point spread”, inserting “9-2 BOSTON VICTORY.”)

For dinner, after the ballgame, Karen recommended a restaurant in Chinatown called “Sea Garden” and we were not let down one bit. The spicy chicken wings, honey walnut prawns, and the Singapore fried rice noodles were all delicious.

The only bad part of the whole trip was when we pulled back into Karen’’s house, knowing the fun was almost over and it was time for the long trip home to Portland for work Monday morning.

Thank you Karen and Ryan for the fabulous experience; we truly appreciate your friendship.
